Recent Events at our Care Home in Didcot

There has been lots happening recently at Valerian Court Care Home in Didcot, Oxfordshire, for not only our residents but their loved ones and the local community too.

Blue Light Breakfasts

Since the middle of June, we have been warmly welcoming local emergency service crews to our care home every Friday morning for a free breakfast of pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee.

We are delighted to be able to offer our gratitude to our local emergency service heroes in this way, and it's been great to chat with them when they have the time to sit and eat in our Bistro, or just to provide our support when they need to "grab & go".

It has also been wonderful for our residents to meet more people who are supporting their local community.

A Visit to the Alpacas

It is important to us that we provide residents with opportunities both within our care home, as well as out in our local area. We like to keep things varied for our residents so that they always have something fun and engaging to look forward to.

On Sunday 9th July, we took a small group of residents to enjoy some tea and cake with a wonderful view at Downside Farm in Blewbury. Here we met alpacas Boris, Ollie, and Perry as well as a couple of goats and a beautiful shetland pony.

The cakes were delicious and plentiful so much so that we couldn’t eat them all and instead boxed up what was left to bring home to share with the other residents and team members.

It was a lovely sensory activity for our residents who got to stroke the Alpaca's soft wooly coat and interact with the other animals. There was a lovely atmosphere and it made for a very relaxing Sunday afternoon. We look forward to visiting with more of our residents soon.

LPA & Wills Advice Workshop

On Monday 17th July, we held our very first information and advice evening at our care home. Rebecca Kashti from Hedges Law presented a very informative, sensitive, emphatic session on issues that can be very difficult to think about and discuss such as Power of Attorney, wills, and mental capacity.

The audience really got involved as they opened up to discuss serious matters that they needed guidance on. Rebecca demonstrated a well-read and experienced insight into the complex world of legal issues involving health and welfare for our residents, relatives, and guests who attended this valuable workshop. We look forward to hosting more workshops and supporting our local community in the future.

At Valerian Court Care Home, we are here for you. We take pride in supporting our residents, relatives, and our local community in whatever way they need. If you would like to speak to one of our dedicated care professionals ten please book a tour or get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
