Margaret’s Story of Finding Purpose and Happiness at Valerian Court
When Margaret joined us at Valerian Court Care Home in 2023, she was ready for a fresh start after a challenging few years. Following a fall in 2019 that resulted in a broken patella and later a hip fracture, Margaret had worked tirelessly to regain her mobility. But after navigating multiple recoveries and a difficult family situation, she recognised that she needed some extra support. Choosing Valerian Court gave her not only a safe and supportive environment but also the chance to rediscover her confidence and purpose.
Margaret joined us to receive residential care and, over time, became an important part of our vibrant community. While being surrounded by true kindness and encouragement, she began rebuilding her physical and emotional strength. Over time, she found new comfort and belonging among friends and our team.
Rebuilding Confidence and Bringing Joy to Others
Margaret’s transformation has been inspiring to see. With the support of regular physiotherapy and encouragement from our care team, she regained her mobility and independence. Now, each morning, she takes it upon herself to visit all residents throughout the home, checking in on friends and spreading smiles wherever she goes.
Her sociable, caring nature has made her a much-loved part of daily life at Valerian Court. She joins in every live music event, bakes every Friday and is an active member of our gardening group. Our hairdresser regularly brings flowers in with her and Margaret carefully arranges them around the home. She always keeps our Bistro area and lounges filled with colour and fragrance all year round. She even rallied a small group of “flower arrangers” to join her, ensuring everyone could take part in brightening the home together.
Her dedication has not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, Margaret was proudly nominated as our Resident Ambassador, a role that recognises her positivity and the incredible contribution she makes to our home. Whether it’s greeting visitors on show rounds, helping new residents settle in, or ensuring the home looks its best, her care and thoughtfulness always shine through.

Today, Margaret’s well-being has improved significantly. Her days are now filled with laughter and the satisfaction of helping others. Her room is full of artwork and paintings, and with regular visits from her son and late partner’s daughter, her life is once again full of love and companionship.
