Residents Welcome The New Year at Their New Home

December was very exciting for the Team at Valerian Court; we welcomed our first residents just before Christmas and were happy to be able to bring families together for Christmas Day lunch. 

Since Christmas we have welcomed several new residents, some of who we have been speaking to since our care home was a building site, building relationships with them and their families and others who we are happy to be able to welcome for respite following extended stays in hospital, our team are enjoying getting to know all our residents and their loved ones. 

Our Activities Team has been trying out some of the resources that we’ve started collecting. This is helping us to get to know each resident individually, which will help us to plan their person-centred activity schedule. Residents helped to take our Christmas decorations down, making more space for them to sit together in one of our lovely bay windows overlooking a children’s play park. 

Residents have been getting to grips with their new surroundings, partaking in a variety of games and activities and enjoying the dining facilities with loved ones. Our in-house chef has been discussing with residents their favourite meals and dietary requirements so that the kitchen team can create seasonal menus for all to enjoy.

Staff and residents joined members of the local community at Music for Memories, at the Harwellian social club in Harwell where we were treated to some well-known songs, played by the Hendred Ukuele Group, residents enjoyed reminiscing, singing along and there was even a little dancing! We hope to attend the next Music for Memories session in February.     

We have lots of planning in progress, including resident birthday celebrations, Chinese New Year, Burns Night and looking ahead into February, Valentine’s Day and St. David’s Day. Visit our Facebook page for daily updates on what our residents get up to.
