COVID-19

It is important to us at Valerian Court that our residents and care team are healthy and well. Our aim after COVID-19 is to ensure that the environment in our home is as safe as possible and we continue to follow the guidance and legislation as issued by the Government and key sector bodies and we are committed to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff well-informed at all times.

At Valerian Court, we have developed new policies and implemented them to give further reassurance to our residents, their family and our employees.

Our COVID-19 Approach

Care homes in England can make risk-based decisions as to whether face masks are required to be worn. Following a risk assessment, our care home has made the decision to remove the universal wearing of masks. It is a personal choice whether visitors still wish to wear a mask and people receiving care can ask staff to wear face masks; our staff will continue to work in whichever way makes our residents most comfortable.

We continue to no longer have restrictions as to the number of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained.

At any time, the decision to not wear face masks can be changed as determined by the Home Manager, company, local or national healthcare agencies. COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National, and Local Healthcare Agencies may also change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Maintaining Normalcy

To help us keep our home as safe as possible, we make sure we have a good supply of PPE and sanitation products to keep our home protected.

At Valerian Court, our team are trained and must follow our infection prevention and control measures. We are able to do this by keeping up to date and in compliance with official advice and guidance provided by the Government, Department of Health, and the local NHS Trust.

We continue to recommend that everyone in our home keep up to date with their vaccinations and boosters, for not only COVID-19 but also the flu. If there is an outbreak within our home, we are able to take appropriate action.

Stay Connected with Loved Ones

At our care home in Oxfordshire, we want to ensure everyone can stay connected with each other, especially after COVID-19. Valerian Court is proud to have a supportive team for its residents and will help them so they can continue to go on day trips or overnight stays away.

Currently, there are no requirements to isolate for temporary leave but we do carry out a risk assessment for each individual which includes the use of respiratory screening questions on their return and of course, we recommend everyone in our home to keep up to date with their vaccinations.

If there is an outbreak at Valerian Court, we continue to connect our residents with their loved ones by using several online devices. We know first-hand how much human interaction can help with someone’s mental well-being and we will always encourage them to interact with their families and other members of the home.

COVID-19 FAQs

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at Valerian Court Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time.

We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
